RECIPE: Homemade Taco Seasoning

Store-bought seasoning mixes often contain unwanted ingredients like excess sodium, sugar, and preservatives, which might be of concern to those with high blood pressure or diabetes, as well as the generally health-conscious. Making your own seasoning mix is simple, easy, and a great way to eliminate unwanted ingredients without compromising flavor.

This recipe for taco seasoning is no exception: it’s simple, easy, and tasty. It yields one half cup, which is equivalent to about two packets of store-bought seasoning. Double or triple it to have some on hand for future use.

2 tablespoons ground cumin

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 1/2 tablespoons dried oregano

1 tablespoon paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1/2 tablespoon onion powder

OPTIONAL: ground cayenne pepper, to taste

Mix all ingredients together, and use it like you would any other taco seasoning.
